TEMPLE QUAY – WATERFRONT PROPOSALS

Towards the end of 2006, plans for Temple Quay Central took a major step forward when Bristol law firm Burges Salmon decided to relocate its headquarters to a new office building on the site, overlooking the Floating Harbour. This decision has acted as a catalyst for the regeneration of the entire waterfront at Temple Quay Central and Castlemore Securities is developing detailed planning proposals for submission to Bristol City Council in the Spring.

The application will not only cover the Burges Salmon building, but also the neighbouring residential tower and two further schemes that will include more offices and apartments as well as cafes and shops, with basement car parking. Looking beyond the buildings into the surrounding public realm, the planning application will also include proposals for the open space between the buildings and along the waterfront itself.

The application will also include two new landmarks for the area: a new bridge over the Floating Harbour for both pedestrians and cyclists together with a striking piece of public art for the waterfront designed by world famous artist, Vito Acconci.

Castlemore has already started building a speculative office building behind its Temple Quay Central waterfront site. This scheme will be followed by a 142-bed hotel and café, together with a further residential scheme including shops, workshops and a multi-storey car park. So, the waterfront development is one of the final pieces of the Temple Quay jigsaw, bringing new jobs, new homes and new life to this previously derelict area.
